“I was in a dark tunnel… and there was just no light at the end.” says Sarah.
She was only 8 years old when the sexual abuse started. He was someone close to the family, someone who lived with them, someone they trusted.
She couldn’t tell anyone, he made sure of that. She was too scared her parents would get angry with her. As if whatever was happening was her fault.
It ruined her childhood. The early scars had left her traumatised. She didn’t remember ever being happy. Depression took over.
It took Sarah 20 years to get over it, to understand that the abuse didn’t have to define her.
The little ones need our help and protection. They need to be able to reach out. Help stop this from happening to them.
