Matt tried to keep the risky encounter a secret. His report says he arrested Kirk Wentworth and took him straight to the station. His report does not say that Kirk spat on him, broke a beer bottle over his head, and resisted arrest.

But there were witnesses, and Kirk is HIV-positive.

The district attorney tries to get Matt to change his report. All the blood, saliva, and open wounds mean Kirk could be charged for exposing others to the HIV virus — a criminal act carrying punishing sentences.

The law exists for a reason: to protect the people.

But both of them were bleeding that night. Both of them had open wounds. And the law doesn’t know about Matt’s other risky encounter.
