Life is made up of unpredictable events. However, it is also made up of opportunities, if you know how to spot them.
In this film, ‘Aasai’ (Aspirations), Manju, a Saman Aunty (parking warden), finds herself on an exciting path to self-discovery after a chance encounter.
Manju knows Little India inside out from more than 20 years of working in that area
As Manju was performing her routine checks, she overheard a tourist couple almost being conned by a man selling Biryani at ridiculous prices. Her sense of righteousness urged her to interfere without hesitation. Subsequently, she even went the extra mile by bringing the couple to one of her favorite restaurants for some authentic local food.
Manju even offered to bring them around to see some attractions in Little India
Doing What Feels Right Is What Got Her Started
This small deed from Manju would lead her to embark on a journey she would have never foreseen.
“You are never too old to try something new”, the couple suggested that Manju consider being a tour guide. Without giving too much thought, she got home and applied for a tour guide course, and even started studying Little India she’s already so familiar with!

Taking The Daunting First Step
As the saying goes, nothing will ever happen if no action is taken. However, many of us freeze before taking the first step as it can be overwhelming.
In Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s wise words –
“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
After setting up her own website and waiting for more than 2 weeks, Manju finally got her first client sign-up and that officially makes her tour guide business up and running.
Manju went on to provide her service to the first client and voila! She started getting referrals
How To Keep The Ball Rolling
All in all, nothing is ever planned in life. Manju has never looked back ever since she took that first small step after that random encounter with that tourist couple by the street.
She has demonstrated how taking the first step is vital no matter how small the step is. Once you’ve taken that first step, you would be more inclined to take your second step, third step, and more. And that is just how Manju ended up building the tour guide business she had never imagined she could.
Don’t wait until tomorrow to take action. Tomorrow starts today, and today starts now.
