When Ma-ae left Burma, her goal was clear: find legal employment that could help start her new life in Thailand.
Her job at a laundromat seemed like a promising start until she discovers a wallet in one of her customer’s pants.
The leather wallet strained at the seams with notes, money that she could use for her visa application, to send back home.
Caught in a moral dilemma, Ma-ae tries to do the right thing.
But in her journey of locating the wallet’s owner, she finds out the harsh truths of what locals think of her.
It’s a bitter pill to swallow.
‘Ma-ae’ was part of the official selection at the Bangkok Underground Film Festival 2017.
