“Your dream will kill you,” thundered her father.
Shimica was about to make her debut as a singer, and she shared that achievement with her father. He didn’t think much of it.
There was too much at risk. And as a father, he knew her best.
He watched her grow, and watch her pursue her dream since she was a kid. Singing competitions, more classes. He knew her in and out.
He also knew that she was all that he had.
And he wouldn’t want her to fail, to fall from grace, to be crushed by the weight of expectation.
Shimica wanted to dream big, and dad had belittled her.
She was going to prove him wrong. It would be the last time they ever saw each other, she swore.
Nobody would have know fate had planned for her, but she was right on one of those two accounts.
