It was a traumatic time for Kwok-fai: she committed suicide in the next room while he was asleep. He’s bombarded with questions, gossiping relatives, and the overwhelming burden of having to perform the last rites as the only male descendent.
The more people gossip, the more Kwok-fai reassesses his relationship with his grandmother. He asks his mother the reasons behind his grandmother’s passing.
Even though he’s not ready for it, Kwok-fai has to learn an extremely painful lesson of growing up.
But at grandma’s wake, before her last rites, and after the funeral, she appeared to him to tell him everything was alright.
